Trustee Appointments

Downton Parish Council has been appointed Trustee for the following Charities: –

The Carver Trust Cottages

By Trust Deed dated 25 July 1925 three Trustees were appointed (Charity Registration No. 240706) Charity Commission website.

Upon Margaret Clifton Hodding ceasing to be a Trustee, Downton Parish Council appoints one Representative Trustee. Their appointment not exceeding three years.

Stockman and Woodlands Charities

By Order of the Charity Commission made on 18 December 1970 thirteen Trustees were appointed (Charity Registration No. 202233) Charity Commission website.

Downton Parish Council appoints two Nominative Trustees of the charities

1. The Charity of William Stockman

2. The Charity of John Woodlands for old men

3. The Charity of John Woodlands for spinsters and widows.

Nominative Trustees are appointed for two years although at the end of that term, they remain eligible for re-appointment.

Children’s Corner or Playground

By Order of the Charity Commission made on 05 November 1974, Downton Parish Council was appointed as sole Trustee of ‘Children’s Corner or Playground’ (Charity Registration No. 1005118). Charity Commission website

In this Order, 0.901 acres of land situated as Barford Lane, Downton, Wiltshire (known as the Children Corner or Playground) was vested in Downton Parish Council for the benefit of the estate and interest therein belonging to or held in trust for the Charity. This land is subject to two separate Leases: –

Lease 1: Downton Parish Council (Landlord) and 1st Downton Scout Group (Tenant)

Lease 2: Downton Parish Council (Landlord) and Wessex Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (Tenant)

As Downton Parish Council is the sole Trustee, ‘Children’s Corner or Playground’ charity business must be conducted separately to that of Downton Parish Council’s council business. Agendas and Minutes are published in the table below.
