Trafalgar School students create ‘delightful’ mural
The Trafalgar School Year 10 art students and their teachers worked with professional local artist Fred Fieber transforming the shelter at Downton Memorial Gardens by creating an original mural which celebrates the beauty of local wildlife.
This project, funded by Downton Parish Council with support from the Southern Wiltshire Area Board, enabled young people to work with a professional artist who guided them on how to turn their designs into public art.
Councillor Stephanie Jalland celebrated the team’s work saying “It is a delightful mural transformation of a previously drab shelter in Downton Memorial Gardens. The students have done a great job and have created an inspiring legacy to brighten their community. Look out for this cheerful mural next time you are in Downton.” 18 July 2025
Art and design in the public realm in Wiltshire – 2024 Guidance
The integration of public art has an important role to play in providing ‘high quality, beautiful’ environments that can support the building of a new community. Public art can provide focal points and enhances a sense of place and connection for residents with their community and therefore its inclusion can support the development of ‘better places in which to live’.
